Who is Certified Interpreting?

Our agency is staffed by RID-certified interpreters, who are responsible for scheduling, coordinating, contracting, and operating the day-to-day functions of an interpreting agency.

We utilize a diverse network of certified interpreters as well as a small number of qualified interpreters working toward certification. All of these interpreters comply with local laws, including Interpreting licensure. For more information visit: Office of Licensing and Registration.

In addition to the highly-skilled and certified employees on our staff, we contract with certified interpreters who provide the same highly-skilled services on an itinerant basis. All of these service providers are competent professionals, fluent in both ASL and English. They all operate according to the Standards of Professional Interpreting.

Why and When Did We Begin?

In 1982 there were only a handful of nationally certified interpreters in Maine. Accessible services and opportunities for Deaf persons were increasing and a greater need for professional interpreters was emerging. In our mission to promote the use of nationally certified interpreters, we were emboldened to start a small interpreting service. Unlike a referral service, we are a full-service interpreter brokerage agency.  Certified Interpreting seeks to hire the most qualified and appropriate interpreter for a given situation. We stand behind our service and will be there when the need arises.

How are we networked?

Although we’re primarily based in Maine, we are networked to professionals throughout New England. Using our own proprietary interpreter-scheduling system,  Docket we are able to network you to the services you need.
